My background

What Iโ€™ve studied, where Iโ€™ve been...

My journey as a language teacher is a blend of formal education, hands-on experience, and a deep passion for languages and cultures. Over the years, Iโ€™ve had the privilege of studying, teaching, and immersing myself in various cultures, all of which have shaped the teacher I am today.

Academic Background

  • Bachelorโ€™s in Foreign Languages, University of Lille, France:

    • Mandarin Chinese and English language.

    • Strong focus on history, culture and politics.

  • DAEFLE Certification (Teaching French as a Foreign Language), Alliance Franรงaise de Paris:

    • French for young learners specialization

    • Solid foundation in effective teaching methods

    • Skills in active grammar acquisition, and phonology.

  • TEFL Certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), The TEFL Org:

    • Variation of teaching skills through active acquisition (yes, again!)

    • Deep dive into English grammar (it's now easier to connect it with French)

Teaching Experience

  • ๐Ÿ“ Sofia, Bulgaria (French Institute): Taught French as a foreign language to a diverse range of students, including complete beginners, young children, teenagers, diplomatic staff, and foreign students, in both group and private settings. Created educational content : lesson plans, visual aids, e-books. Conducted DELF/DALF exam evaluations. Also worked as a nursery educator with toddlers, enhancing patience, pedagogy, and language demonstration skills.

  • ๐Ÿ“ Hungary (Franco-Hungarian Youth Foundation): Spent a year as a French Language Tutor for high school students, preparing them for their graduation exam and DELF B2 exam. Led conversation workshops and supported French university applications. Acted as an intercultural mediator during a high-school exchange program, deepening intercultural communication skills and refining teaching methods.

Language skills

  • ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง English: Fluent, studied since childhood and enhanced by living abroad since 2019.

  • ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Italian: Acquired through immersion : travel, friendships, and practice with native speakers.

  • ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ Spanish: Developed similarly to Italian, with a focus on real-life interaction.

  • ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฌ Bulgarian: Comfortable, learned through daily interactions and working in Bulgaria.

  • ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ Chinese: A complex relationship, my major in Uni; connected deeply to its history and culture. Really difficult to maintain without practice, I'd need about two years of immersion and intense studying to regain fluency.

  • ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡บ Hungarian: Acquired basic skills while living in Hungary for a year. One of the most enriching language experience. Hungarian is a unique language in the European family!

  • ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช German: Studied for years in school. Though I lacked speaking practice, and do not speak it anymore, the foundation is useful to navigate other Germanic languages .

  • ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Dutch: Familiar with the basics, but can't speak. The logic came easily thanks to my background in German.

Skills acquisition

My multilingual experience allows me to draw connections between languages, helping my students build connections between their existing knowledge and French.

My language background is what gave me such a wide range of methods to teach my own language : French.

Did you know that Bulgarian and French have surprising lexical overlaps ?
That English borrows extensively from French ?
That the Cyrillic alphabet can help with acquiring French pronunciation ?
And that French and Italian grammar are almost identical ?

These insights are just a few examples of what helps me create a learning environment where language acquisition feels natural and intuitive.

Getting used to hearing the language is one of the main factors of progression, which is why I conduct my lessons entirely in French. This immersive approach mirrors what your life can be as a multilingual French-learner.
